10/25: About Us
In 2005, a group of classically-trained actors formed The Fictitious Theatre Company (FTC Inland Theatre Works) to help meet the need for theatre in the San Bernardino area. The inaugural outdoor production of “Much Ado About Nothing” in the Court Street Square, led to positive word of mouth and audiences have been growing ever since.
FTC's growth has been a result of partnerships. The second season fomented a partnership with the theatre arts students, faculty, and staff at California State University San Bernardino. "Romeo and Juliet" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream" were performed in Cal State's Ronald E. Barnes theatre, causing growth in both the audiences and quality of the productions. Another important partnership was forged the following winter with the city of San Bernardino's visual and performing arts magnet, Arroyo Valley High School, where FTC produced Agatha Christie's "Witness for the Prosecution”. The 2007 summer season -- "Cyrano de Bergerac" and the world premier of "Shakespeare and the City" – were also produced at Arroyo Valley. Through its Fine Arts Commission, the City of San Bernardino has proved a third important partner, enabling and supporting the company’s efforts.
2008 brought about a name change - FTC Inland Theatre Works. The new name has a more regional quality to it, which reflects the direction we would like to take the company. The summer season went back to pure Shakespeare - Othello and Two Gentlemen of Verona.
FTC is also extremely proud of its ongoing summer Drama Camp, held at Arroyo Valley High School. Local Drama Camp students learn to grow artistically in a program that culminates with a showcase performance for the public. The Fictitious Theatre Company has won eight Inland Theatre League awards in their two brief years of productions. This bright young Inland Empire company continues to strive for growth and excellence in its pursuit of quality theatre in the community.
