In its first public reading Wish of an Almost Widow -by Molly Gross

In 1938, on the vast, dry farmland of Indiana, walls and dreams are under construction in a tattered farmhouse where Lily and Trevor are hoping to build a family. When the county Sheriff's long-festering love for Lily mutates into jealous and possessive violence, he rapes her, not predicting Trevor's vengeful attack that results in his death. One year later, Lily finally visits Trevor in prison on the morning of his execution, where their make-believe games aid in the denial of his fate. As time alternates between the past and present, secrets are revealed as to why Trevor and Lily made the decisions they did, but not all secrets will emerge, for as a husband approaches death, there may be certain things an almost-widow does not wish him to know.

2008 Summer Shakespeare

Othello
Othello is unique among Shakespeare’s masterpieces for its purity of story and morality. A black man in a white society, Othello has earned immense respect and honored military position – but does he go too far when he woos Desdemona, the epitome of white beauty and goodness. Their marriage represents absolute virtue, which can only be destroyed by equal malfeasance. That degree of evil quickly provided by the Shakespeare’s most perfect villain, Iago who plots to vanquish the happiness surrounding him
Two Gentlemen of Verona
Comedy, love and a bit with a dog. In Shakespeare’s earliest comedy, he takes us on a journey from "boring" Verona to "fabulous" Milan to a lawless Italian forest. Proteus and Valentine are best friends, but the bounds and bonds of friendship are tested when they both want the same girl. See the original characters that would be echoed in his future plays, his first use of cross dressing, lovers that would reappear in a summer’s dream, and hints of many of his other future characters. Throw in a real dog (who may or may not bark in verse) and you never know what will happen.

About Us

In 2005, a group of classically-trained actors formed The Fictitious Theatre Company (FTC) to help meet the need for theatre in the San Bernardino area. The inaugural outdoor production of “Much Ado About Nothing” in the Court Street Square, led to positive word of mouth and audiencess have been growing ever since.

FTC's growth has been a result of partnerships. The second season fomented a partnership with the theatre arts students, faculty, and staff at California State University San Bernardino. "Romeo and Juliet" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream" were performed in Cal State's Ronald E. Barnes theatre, causing growth in both the audiences and quality of the productions. Another important partnership was forged the following winter with the city of San Bernardino's visual and performing arts magnet, Arroyo Valley High School, where FTC produced Agatha Christie's "Witness for the Prosecution”. The 2007 summer season -- "Cyrano de Bergerac" and the world premier of "Shakespeare and the City" – were also produced at Arroyo Valley. Through its Fine Arts Commission, the City of San Bernardino has proved a third important partner, enabling and supporting the company’s efforts.

FTC is also extremely proud of its ongoing summer Drama Camp, held at Arroyo Valley High School. Local Drama Camp students learn to grow artistically in a program that culminates with a showcase performance for the public. Fictitious Theatre Company has won eight Inland Theatre League awards in their two brief years of productions. This bright young Inland Empire company continues to strive for growth and excellence in its pursuit of quality theatre in the community.
Shakespeare and the City

"The debut of an original play by Molly Gross"
Sex was one of Shakespeare’s favorite topics, but how often do we get to hear his heroines talk about it? Lady Macbeth, Desdemona, Portia, and Viola come together in York to talk about more than just sex in this wonderful blend of Shakespearian and original dialogue that’s too good for cable. The sex, gossip and desperate acts of love might seem familiar to you, but until you mix some Shakespeare with some city, thou hast not seen anything like this.

2007 Shows: Cyrano de Bergerac

cyrano_v2_web.jpg

by Edmond Rostand

“Was this the nose that launched a thousand ships and burnt the topless towers of Ilium?” This classic, tragic comedy tells the tale of the soulful poet/philosopher and expert swordsman named Cyrano who falls in love with his beautiful cousin Roxanne, but is ashamed to woo her because of his magnificent protuberance. Instead he writes love letters for a slow-witted, but handsome soldier Christian. He sends up words of love through his pain to Roxanne’s balcony, knowing that they would never be returned to him. Such a noble nose is rare indeed.
